As soon as I got home from track practice that day, the phone rang. I smiled as I went to pick it up- Sam knew exactly when I got home.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Alex." I frowned at that, since Sam never called me Alex. "Listen can I talk to you?"

"Sure, Sam," I replied confusedly.

"Sam called," I sobbed to my friend Jess later. "He...said he didn't want to come to the concert tonight. And then...he dumped me! He said I've been acting too stuck up and using people. Where did that come from?" I wasn't very upset by this, actually Sam had become distant in the past few weeks, and I had accepted the thought of us breaking up. The ones who were most upset were my parents.

"I don't know, if anything, I think he's been using you," Jess accused. "I didn't want to say anything, but for about a month now he's been flirting with Laura Skotts, who, as we're all aware, only chooses the most popular guys."

"So you noticed too," I commented. "Well, I better get ready for tonight."

"Oh, you're still going?" Jess asked.

Of course I was, not even getting dumped could stop me, although there was the matter of that extra ticket now...

"Hey, Brian. It's Alex. Do you want to come to a Kyvve Jeesa concert tonight?"

"So, what are you wearing?" Jen asked later that night. "Because, I can't think of anything appropriate to wear."

I sighed, it was hopeless. "Jen, it doesn't have to be appropriate, it just has to go. I'm wearing my red pleather pants and that white shirt, the one that's tight around my stomach and kind of dips down..."

"The one that states perfectly 'I'm single'?" she asked.

"That's the one. Gosh, I've missed that shirt."

"Alex, I'm only saying this because I love you, but no matter how much of your breasts are showing, John Daniels isn't going to notice you," Jen said.

"For the last time, I'm not after him," I said impatiently.

"Oh? Who, then?"

"I'm not saying..."

"It's that new kid, isn't it?" My sister guessed. "Brian? Okay, I even have to admit he's hot. But he's from America. Rememer, they rebelled against us? He can't be trusted."

"Jen, our own father's American, and we trust him. He's not evil. Plus, that was hundreds of years ago, I bet they've changed since then. Besides, I don't want to get Brian tonight, I just want to snag some attention."

"Well, why don't you wear your blue shirt then, the one with the open back?" she advised.

"Nah...I wore that to our last Kyvve Jeesa concert, John would notice." Plus, I didn't want my sister to find out that I had gotten a little tattoo on the small of my back. At least, not for a few weeks, when it was bikini season.

"No, I think it was two concerts ago, and we didn't see him after the concert," Jen argued. "Are we seeing him tonight?"

"Of course!" I exclaimed. We usually had backstage passes to the band's concerts, and had thus become their friends. "Anyway, I just don't want to wear that shirt."

"Well, if you're not going to wear it, can I?" Jen asked.

"Sure," I answered. "Actually, I don't think I'm going to wear that other outfit..."

By the time our chaffeur came to the house to pick us up, I had changed my outfit three times. I wasn't usually this preoccupied with my appearance, but I was today. When I stepped out of my room for the final time, I was wearing a short, black skirt, a baby blue tank top, a transparent white shirt over that, my toe socks, and orange striped Adidas sneakers.

"What, you're not wearing your 'single woman' shirt?" Jess asked as we picked her up. "Are you actually hiding your depressed feelings from us?"

"No, I just didn't feel like wearing it," I told her. "Believe me, I am definitely over Sam. My parents, on the other hand..."

"I think you look great," Brian commented from behind Jess.

I was startled a bit; I hadn't seen Brian there. "Thanks," I replied. "Um...we should get going if we want to talk to John before the show." Everyone agreed, and we headed off.

"So, what's your question this time?" a cute Australian native asked me. He wasn't just any guy from Australia, however. He was John Daniels, frontman for Kyvve Jeesa, along with his girlfriend, Beth. Or at least, that's what everyone called her, but her real name was Sara. I had seen and talked to the band so many times that conversation often lulled, so every time, I came up with an interesting question for him.

"Um...I hadn't thought about one today," I replied. "I've been too busy with school, and...stuff. I meant to come up with one this afternoon, but Sam called and dumped me, so I didn't have time."

"How could Sam dump you?" John asked, obviously shocked. "But, that describes this fella." His gaze adverted to Brian.

"No, not really," I responded. "This is Brian, he just moved here and started school today."

"Hello," Brian greeted, and I first realised he didn't have a usual accent like the rest of us. "I'm sorry I haven't said anything, but I'm kind of in awe over here..."

John laughed. "Well, no reason to be. We're just normal people when you get down to the bottom of it. No second heads, or three arms, just a knack with music. Unless you're talking about Her Majesty here...which I'd understand then, because I was in awe at first too."

"Well," my sister inturrupted, "we better get to our seats now. It was nice chatting, as usual."
